We often encounter opposing opinions in extension of discussions as to the underlying roots from which health and wellbeing stem.

Some maintain health issues arise from our mental programming, yet others consider biochemical imbalances; the true origin of all physical pathology; such a divide (or dichotomy) is absolutely artificial and superficial; and essentially superfluous, practically irrelevant.

Mind and body are intimately connected; in fact they are one and the same! Mind, employed in the aforementioned respect, denotes our brain. (Consciousness represents an entirely different issue which we shall discuss elsewhere).

Our brain contains and can be completely manipulated by biochemicals; meaning biochemistry regulates and modulates our brain’s performance; and the brain mediates our experience of reality.

Nevertheless, it is obvious and sense able, for example, that the nature of our thoughts and feelings define whether we are able to implement, follow and maintain benign lifestyle changes; which, in the long term, determines whether we can regain and maintain health and wellbeing. Wherefore health can never be attained by the contents of pills, diets, herbs or supplements.

Without a proper mind-set, all other, external, efforts and endeavors, finally prove futile and hopeless; the mind will ultimately find a way to destroy or overturn any seeming, momentary, progress. Since we may simply, eventually, resume performing the actions from which our problems originated, or we might lack the motivation and inspiration upholding our lifestyle transformation. Thus, a supportive, properly set, mind appears indispensable during the process of healing and the further maintenance of wellbeing.

Be that as it is, if our brain’s ability to produce certain hormones or neurochemicals is degraded; we may well experience great difficulty in maintaining a supportive mind-set. And thereby the circle seems completed:

There can therefore never be any real distinction between the mind and body in relation to the process of healing; we must work on both aspects of the self simultaneously in order to ensure success, health and lasting wellness.
