What to look for?

The profound benefits provided by well designed herbal formulas are remarkable, whether self-assembled or precombined by a quality herbal supplier.

A complete set of herbal regimens is detailed below, but first, however, we will do well by considering the following general guidelines in connection with herbal preparations.

How to use our instructions?

We are determined to help people derive lasting value from our recipes and protocols, we therefore recommend users bookmark this page, take-notes or print the instructions.

Cost Efficiency

Instead of buying readymade herbal admixtures, herbs can be purchased separately, whereby a significant reduction of costs can be attained. We do however assume a greater responsibility thereby, which preparing our own formulas requires.

  • The specific quantities of individual herbs; constituting the admixture, should be approximately equal in weight, and the contents must be stored in an airtight container (glass is the preferable medium).
  • Due to pricing issues or particular circumstances; we may choose to use more or less of a particular herb.
  • Some herbal extracts or specific concoctions should be stored separately: panax ginseng, for instance, may be acquired in the form of syrup; and we do not recommend combining syrup and powder, in most cases.

Recommended Doses
The quantities and duration of a herbal powder based regimen

  • Per admixture: start with one teaspoon three times a day (mixed with juice or water).
  • Increase or decrease the dose accordingly: if, for example, strong unpleasant detoxification symptoms occur; decrease the dose.
  • The duration of the inclusion of a certain formula in our daily regimen would favorably, most efficaciously, last three to six months.
  • Bitter, highly astringent, formulas should be discontinued after 1-3 months of continual use. If so required or desired, formulas with similar effects, yet formulated with different herbs, may be employed instead. The reasons therefore stem from the powerful and medicinal nature of bitter herbs.
  • Tonic herbs, possessing adaptogenic properties, or bitter-less herbs, may be included in our daily regimen indefinitely. Nevertheless, remixing the contents of our herbal regimen every so often, might very well provide greater efficacy and service; due to the potential benefits of biochemical variety, anyhow.

The Appropriate use of Herbal Tinctures

Alcoholic herbal tinctures offer another system of delivery; providing many benefits and few drawbacks.
Herbs are extracted into an alcohol base, wherefrom, when intaken, the active ingredients may be rapidly metabolized by the liver; therefrom transported into our blood and lymph system, thereby ensuring a high level of bioavailability and rate of assimilation.

  • If we are targeting the bowel (the small and large intestine), herbalists mostly avoid the use of tinctures; the benefit of rapid assimilation becomes disadvantageous in this case, since such a herbal program works optimally by actively engaging the bowel. Powders are preferable in such extensions.
  • Herbal tinctures are naturally strongest if extracted by a medium containing a high alcohol volume: 45% or above is optimal, at a ratio of at least 1-4 (four parts alcohol to one part herb).
  • The recommended amount, per admixture, may vary in relation to the strength of the specific tincture. However, a general estimate would be about one teaspoon, three times daily. In acute cases, extracts may be used every hour, in conjunction with the supervision of a qualified specialist.

The Importance of Quality

- As much as possible, source or purchase high quality herbs; wild crafted or organic in origin.

- Most herbs are fortunately wild crafted; wherefore freshness determines the quality of a particular herb, since organic vs. conventional farming practises are mostly irrelevant in relation to the cultivation of herbs, nevertheless, pay attention to the country of origin, particularly herbs from China and India must be rigorously examined.

- Avoid suspicious chinese and indian herbs, which possibly contain dangerous levels of heavy metals and, or, other insalubrious toxins. Herbs may furthermore be handled without due care.

- Deal only with reputable herbal suppliers. Herbs from should be chemically analysed by the herbal supplier, on a regular basis.

A Word of Caution

If you enjoy the exotic fragrances of herbs and the process of making your own admixtures; purchase the herbs separately.

Caution: if you are turned-off by unusual and sometimes bitter flavors; you may want to avoid this option. And perhaps source herbal capsules or tinctures instead.
